George Peto passed away at approximately 0100 (1:00 AM) on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. Semper Fidelis.
George Peto is a leatherneck veteran, a proud surviving member of the 1st Marines “Old Breed.” He is a decorated combat veteran of four Pacific campaigns in World War II: Finschhaven, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa.
George served with distinction throughout the entire war, from August 1941 to November, 1945. Now an accomplished historian on America’s struggle in the Pacific theater during World War II, he is the author and contributing author of several articles on that subject (including an autobiography he is currently writing). Over 93 years old and still active, he has over time become a distinguished public speaker, now a celebrated war veteran who occasionally gives appearances to veteran organizations, civil organizations, and schools in Ohio, sharing stories of his many, amazing life experiences.
